Data Centers

Alaska Satellite Facility

The ASF specializes in promoting, facilitating, and participating in the advancement of remote sensing data. The ASF’s website features information on using its SAR Data Center including a guide on how to get started.

The Glacier Archive, Society for Ecological Research

The archive uses photography to document changes in Alpine glaciers since 1999. The archive’s website features photo comparisons, a bibliography, and related links.

Glacier Research: Monitoring Glacier Change

Operated by the U.S. Army Cold Regions Research & Engineering Lab, the Glacier Research website attempts to provide a glimpse into glacier studies for the public and greater scientific communities. The site features real-time data and research on Alaskan glaciers, in addition to links, photos, and contacts.

Global Land Ice Measurements from Space (GLIMS)

GLIMS is an international project to monitor glaciers using optical satellite technology. The project’s website includes data access, GLIMS-related publications and presentations, and a directory of collaborators.

National Snow and Ice Data Center

Also known as the World Data Center for Glaciology at Boulder, the NSIDC is a center for information, data, and research on cryospheric issues. The center’s website features project informationresearchpublications, and data.

Operation Glaciers

The website (French) provides a photographic archive that documents changes in the Swiss Alps’ glaciers during the 20th century.

World Data Center for Glaciology, Cambridge

The centre’s website features a searchable database of over 40,000 snow- and ice-related publications worldwide. The centre is one of three World Data Centres for Glaciology organized within the International Council of Science.

World Data System for Cold and Arid Regions (CARD), Lanzhou

The former World data Center for Glaciology and Geocryology, Lanzhou has been combined with other data centers hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other institutes to create the World Data System for Cold and Arid Regions (CARD). The center’s website features an extensive collection of data sets surrounding topics such as remote sensing, snow, and frozen soil. The database collection includes an inventory of Chinese glaciers.

World Glacier Monitoring Service

The service compiles and disseminates data on glacier fluctuations worldwide. Its website features dataliterature, and links.
